Tuesday May 8, 2007

WOLLONGONG MP Noreen Hay will be named a parliamentary secretary by Premier Morris Iemma today.

She is one of 12 Labor MPs Mr Iemma has hand-picked for the $142,140-a-year role which was approved by caucus on Friday. The Premier is expected to allocate portfolios this morning.

Ms Hay will vacate the chair of the powerful Public Accounts Committee (PAC), which she has held since 2005 - the first woman in the job.

In a surprise move, Heathcote MP Paul McLeay has relinquished his position as Parliamentary Secretary for Health to replace her as PAC chair.

He loses about $8000 in annual salary, but gains a larger office and a broader parliamentary policy role.
