THE strife and times of Wollongong MP Noreen Hay took another turn yesterday.
Just when she thought she'd put the controversy of the past behind her, new allegations of a drunken night with her parliamentary colleagues represented a lurid high in Ms Hay's recent controversial political career.Ms Hay strenuously denied allegations she'd been accosted by Kiama MP Matt Brown and that her daughter had been the victim of untoward comments. It wasn't the first time she'd found herself answering questions about alleged alcohol-fuelled adventures.Speaking in Parliament in October 2004, Ms Hay recalled a boozy boat cruise to Vietnam's Halong Bay with a number of other MPs, including then Illawarra MP Marianne Saliba."As luck would have it, they were selling bottles of Chivas Regal and Johnnie Walker Black Label ... Needless to say, when we arrived at our destination a number of members of Parliament were unable to get off the boat to climb the 100 steps," she said at the time.Ms Saliba rejected any suggestion of drunkenness on the trip.Over the last year, Ms Hay has also fended off criticism about an alleged meeting with disgraced developer Frank Vellar and her failure to declare $110,000 in political donations.
