THE heatwave has robbed Sydney racing of a thoroughbred showdown. Unfortunately, the hulk Hay List won't be taking on strapping mare Hot Danish in Saturday's Expressway Stakes at Rosehill. But the Hay List team has other plans - taking on the world's highest-rated sprinter, unbeaten Black Caviar, in the Lightning Stakes at Flemington on February 19. The last time the pair met, at Flemington in the spring, Hay List pulled up distressed. Hay List went into the blockbuster having gashed a leg a couple of weeks earlier."If he is going as good as he is now, and I suspect he'll be going a little better, when he takes on Black Caviar in the Lightning she'll need to be a double freak because he is a freak," trainer John McNair said after his sprinter galloped the Melbourne way of going on the course proper at Gosford yesterday.Hay List recently had an exhibition gallop between races on a Saturday at Rosehill. The track was deemed a good two, but the group 1 winner, which has a history of hoof complaints, jarred up badly."They are 100 per cent, the hooves are the least of my worries," McNair said. "If he'd galloped on a track like that nine months ago, he would have been spelled. but time is king. Nature will fix everything, that's what it is designed to do."Regular jockey Glyn Schofield was rapt with the 600-metre midday workout at Gosford yesterday, saying his charge was fighting fit.
