The Force Is With Him

SIMON Reeve lives and works by the philosophy that you make hay while the sun shines, especially in the often cut-throat industry of commercial television.

Right now it seems the outlook is fine and sunny because he is popping up on our screens everywhere.

As well as presenting the news on Weekend Sunrise and hosting youngsters' quiz show It's Academic, Reeve is also working on the second season of The Force, the fly-on-the-wall reality program that follows Australian police as they investigate crimes and cases from start to finish.

The second season is due to air on Prime in July.

"It's good to be busy," Reeve said. "The last couple of years have been really good to me."

The inaugural series of The Force followed West Australian police around during their duties, and the NSW Police Force has also come on board for this next season.

Reeve credits his father, former ABC newsreader Earl Reeve, for inspiring and encouraging him to become a reporter in the industry.

And it just so happens the senior Reeve grew up in "The 'Castle".

Simon Reeve fondly remembers his father dragging the family across the country from Perth to Newcastle to show them where he had spent much of his formative years.

"He was born in Bega but he grew up in Adamstown, so he wanted to show us where he used to hang out," Simon said.
